Friendship/Fellowship Committees

Carrie Falzone & Heather Smith, Co-Chairs
Meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at noon
The B2B Committee focuses on helping Rochester Rotarians build their business networks and encourages the ethos that “it’s good to do business with a Rotarian.” Periodic Rotary Connections tours allow a member to showcase their business, and the biennial Rochester Rotary Trade Show gives Rotarians an opportunity to exhibit their businesses to fellow members. The committee also helps to organize luncheon topics relating to applying the Rotary Four-Way Test to business practices. Monthly committee meetings plan these various events while also providing a networking opportunity for committee members.

The Volunteer Service Team demonstrates its dedication to the concept of Service Above Self by engaging in a number of volunteer activities throughout the year. Rotarians serve our Rochester Rotary needs in addition to assisting in programs that address the critical needs of children and adults with disabilities, as well as youth education.

Meets the 4th Monday of every month at noon
The Social Events & Activities committee plans and coordinates casual social gatherings that bring Rotary members together. Events range from happy hours to bowling but this committee helps to bring an element of fun and friendship to Rochester Rotary events outside of luncheons. This committee is open to new ideas to meet and connect with our members.

Meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month at noon at Shadow Lake Golf Club in Penfield
The Friendship Committee is comprised of many long-standing Rotarians who are looking to provide comfort and consideration for aging Rochester Rotarians. The committee members often reach out to club members who are ill or going through difficult times by providing rides to the Tuesday meetings, sending cards and making home visits.

The Membership Engagement Committee, charged with getting new members engaged and introduced to other members to help facilitate building relationships; they will also get our current members re-engaged to a higher level: and they will continue to help identify other community members who should be in our club.

The Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner Committee is responsible for planning the event details for this annual event. The Eastern Cities Dinner is a large reception hosted by Rochester Rotary as an opportunity for Rotarians and guests throughout New York and Canada to attend, network and hear from an invited keynote speaker. The keynote speaker is usually the President of Rotary International or a prominent individual from Rotary or the Rotary Foundation. Event details include coordinating the invitation materials, securing the location (often the Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center), choosing dinner menu and entertainment, as well as managing the schedule of the keynote speaker during the visit.

The Program Committee coordinates informative speakers for the Tuesday Luncheon Forum. The committee evaluates the forum to make it even more appealing to club members and community guests.

The Rotary Award Committee solicits nominations, evaluates submissions and chooses the annual recipient of the community’s oldest civic award, the Rochester Rotary Award.

The Marketing Committee communicates the club’s mission, vision and activities among our members and the community.

The History Committee maintains and updates the club’s archives and other historical records. The Committee wrote “The Sunshine Camp Story,” a history of the camp’s first 85 years.

The RPO Gala Committee coordinates the second-largest fundraiser of the year for the Rochester Rotary Charitable Trusts, Inc. The event is held annually on the opening night of the RPO’s Gala Holiday Pops.

The Sunshine Camp Golf Invitational Committee plans all aspects of an annual charity golf tournament. The Sunshine Camp Golf Invitational benefits the Sunshine Camp and the many charitable projects of the Rochester Rotary Charitable Trusts.

Service Committees

Bruce Brown, Chair
Meets every other month on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4:00 pm
Rochester Rotary has been in long-term partnership with School No. 8 for more than 20 years. We provide assistance to students in their personal, social and educational growth. Additionally, the committee works closely with School No. 8 administration, faculty and parents to obtain this goal.

Stephanie Dickman, Chair
Meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 8:00 am
School No. 8 Scholarship Committee members work closely with students from Roberto Clemente School No. 8 who have been awarded college scholarships (Rochester Rotary will pay 75 percent of a SUNY tuition pending student’s fulfillment of Scholarship Program requirements). The committee manages the process and provides mentoring, monthly educational and social activities, and ongoing support to scholarship recipients.

The Campus Facilities Committee helps care for and improve the 157-acre Sunshine Campus in Rush, N.Y. The committee coordinates facility projects, the Day of Caring and work days for our partners.

The International Service Committee arranges all international exchanges: Youth Exchange Program, Group Study Exchange Program and other visiting international Rotarians. The exchange programs are based on approval by Rotary International and District 7120.

The Rotary International Foundation Committee raises local funds to support the Rotary Foundation, which supports Rotary’s service projects throughout the world. The committee also informs members of the importance of Rotary on a global basis.
